LOS ANGELES—The United States government is seeking the forfeiture of a mega-mansion in Holmby Hills, alleging the home was purchased with bribes paid by an Armenian businessman to the family of a former high-ranking public official in the onetime Soviet republic, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on May 5.
The DOJ contends the bribes were paid by the businessman to the family of Gagik Khachatryan. Known as the “Super Minister,” Khachatryan served as chairman of the State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia from 2008 to 2014 and as minister of finance for the Republic of Armenia from 2014 to 2016.
