FDA Issues Recall Notice for 650,000 Bottles of Water Sold in Illinois and Wisconsin

Wisconsin-based Valley Springs Artesian Gold recalled 651,148 bottles of water that were bottled under ‘insanitary conditions,’ a notice says.

More than 600,000 bottles of water were recalled across two states after it was found they were produced “under insanitary conditions,” according to a notice published on the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) website.

According to the notice, Wisconsin-based Valley Springs Artesian Gold recalled 651,148 bottles of water last month.

The FDA on Feb. 26 labeled the action as Class II, meaning that the product might create “temporary or medically-reversible adverse health consequences” or “where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”

The notices did not provide more details on why the water was recalled. The Epoch Times contacted Valley Springs Artesian Gold for comment on Monday.

The recalled products were sold at retailers in Illinois and Wisconsin, according to the enforcement report. It did not say which retailers carried the water.

The FDA’s guidance separately relating to compounding pharmacies calls for a recall if a product “has been prepared, packed, or held under insanitary conditions whereby it may have been contaminated with filth, or whereby it may have been rendered injurious to health.”

The recall notice did not provide advice to consumers.

While the enforcement report did not include a formal statement from Valley Springs Artesian Gold, it indicated that the recall was initiated by the company.

As of the latest FDA update last week, the recall is ongoing.

Recalled Products List

The water that is currently under recall, according to the notice, includes:

• Valley Springs 1-gallon 100% Natural Bottled Water with the universal product code (UPC) 0 31193-00701 9
• Valley Springs 2.5-gallon 100% Natural Bottled Water with the UPC 0 31193-01501 4
• Valley Springs 1-gallon Infant Water with the text, “Not sterile. Use as directed by physician or by labeling directions for use of infant formula,” and with the UPC 0 31193-01401 7
• Valley Springs 1-gallon Daisy’s Doggy Water, with the text, “100% Pure Water. No Chlorine,” with the UPC 0 31193-90100 3
• Valley Springs 1-gallon 100% Natural Bottled Water with the UPC 0 31193-01301 0
• Valley Springs 1-gallon Steamed Distilled Water with the UPC 0 31193-00601 2

The FDA lists the recalling firm as Valley Springs Artesian Gold, LLC, which is located at N8682 Muskrat Road in Portage, Wisconsin.

Recent Recalls

In January, more than 38,000 gallons of distilled water produced by Meijer Steam Distilled Water were recalled in six states, according to a separate FDA report. The reason was due to “floating black foreign substance in the product.”
