Ex-Police Officer Gets Sentenced for Stealing Cocaine From Lockup, Reselling It

SANTA ANA, Calif.—A former Inglewood Police Department officer was sentenced Aug. 27 to two and a half years in federal prison for stealing cocaine from the department’s lock-up and reselling it on the street.

John Abel Baca, 48, of Whittier, then a 21-year veteran of the Inglewood Police Department (IPD) and its union representative, was also ordered to pay a $40,000 fine by U.S. District Judge James Selna. Baca pleaded guilty Oct. 17, 2023 to distributing cocaine on two occasions.
