A California-based company recalled 18 specialty drinks that were distributed in 25 states because of the risk of Salmonella contamination, according to a news release issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

SKS Copack issued the recall after it “received notification from its supplier regarding a voluntary recall initiated” by California Dairies for a lot of non-fat dry milk powder because it was potentially contaminated with Salmonella, a bacterium that can cause potentially severe illness in some people, according to the news release issued last week. Salmonella was discovered by California Dairies after routine testing, it stated.

“The remaining recalled ingredient lot was quarantined [by SKS Copack],” the company said.

It said that it is cooperating with the FDA amid an investigation.

The items were distributed to locations such as cafes, restaurants, and direct delivery services in California, Utah, Indiana, New York, New Jersey, Arizona, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Texas, Ohio, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Oklahoma, Massachusetts, Washington, Oregon, Wisconsin, Nevada, Virginia, Connecticut, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Minnesota, according to the press release.

No reports of illnesses were linked to the recalled products, the news release said.

Salmonella symptoms include diarrhea, fever, vomiting, dehydration, and abdominal cramps, among others, health officials say. Symptoms generally begin between six hours and six days after exposure and last up to a week.
