American citizens must not travel to Venezuela, because they face an “extremely high” risk of being wrongfully detained by the country’s regime, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said in a July 23 post on X.

“As of Friday evening, there are no wrongfully detained Americans in Venezuela, and we want to keep it that way,” she said.
