CALABASAS, Calif.—Sheriff’s homicide detectives Thursday were conducting a death investigation after an 8-year-old boy was killed when a massive oak tree branch fell on him and four others at a camp at King Gillette Ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains in an unincorporated area near Calabasas.

A total of five people—the boy who did not survive, one other boy, a girl, and two men—were injured at Camp Wildcraft in the 26000 block of Mulholland Highway at around 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles County Fire and Sheriff’s departments.
