Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has placed a hold on President Joe Biden’s CIA director nominee William Burns, a move he hopes will pressure the Biden administration to put tough sanctions on Russia’s Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline project.

“I’ll release my hold when the Biden admin meets its legal obligation to report and sanction the ships and companies building Putin’s pipeline. Follow the law. Stop being soft on Russia. #NordStream2,” Cruz said on Twitter on March 5.
