Singer Britney Spears addressed her fans directly for the first time since a judge ended the controversial conservatorship that allegedly controlled her money for the past decade, claiming some members of her family should be “in jail.”

“I do know how embarrassing is to share the fact I’ve never seen cash or wasn’t able to drive my car,” Spears wrote on Instagram and added, “It still blows my mind every day I wake up how my family and the conservatorship were able to do what they did to me.”

The pop star continued to say that the conservatorship was both “demoralizing and degrading,” continuing that she is “not even mentioning all the bad things they did to me which they should all be in jail for.” Spears didn’t elaborate.

“I’m just grateful honestly for each day and being able to have the keys to my car ... owning an ATM card, seeing cash for the first time, being able to buy candles,” Spears said on Instagram. Under the conservatorship, Spears said, she wasn’t able to drive, access her own money, and claimed she was denied other basic freedoms.

Her comment came days after a Los Angeles judge dissolved the conservatorship, which effectively controlled her life and funds for the past 13 years.

“As of today, the conservatorship of the person and estate of Britney Jean Spears is hereby terminated,” Judge Brenda Penny wrote last week.

Spears’ attorney, Mathew Rosengart, told fans and reporters that the singer’s case “helped shine a light on conservatorships and guardianships from coast to coast, from California to New York ... and that took a tremendous amount of insight, courage, and grace.”

And in June during a hearing, Spears spoke out for the first time.

“I don’t feel like I can live a full life,” Britney said at the time, claiming members of her family engaged in “conservatorship abuse.”  The singer also said she would not again perform unless her father, Jamie Spears, was removed from his role as estate conservator.

Jamie Spears has denied any wrongdoing in the case and said he’s only acting in his daughter’s best interest. His former lawyer,  Vivian Thoreen, said in September that her client “does not answer to the court of public opinion“ and ”answers to a court of law, the probate court.”

“All of his actions were well within the parameters of the authority conferred upon him by the court,” she wrote. “His actions were done with the knowledge and consent of Britney, her court-appointed attorney, and/or the court.”

The Epoch Times has contacted the attorney for Jamie Spears, Alex Weingarten, for comment.
