LOS ANGELES—A gunman who fatally shot a 17-year-old boy during a failed robbery attempt in the Koreatown area remained at large April 12.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the teen was sitting in the passenger seat of a car parked on 7th Street near Berendo Street at around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday when a man approached in what is believed to have been a robbery attempt.

The driver began to pull away, prompting the suspect to open fire, striking his passenger, the police department reported.

Police said the driver attempted to drive to a hospital but spotted LAPD officers at Olympic Boulevard and Burlington Avenue in the Westlake area, and stopped for assistance.

The officers attempted life-saving measures, but the teen was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel, the LAPD said. The victim was identified Wednesday by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office as Dylan Ramirez of Los Angeles.

The suspect was last seen fleeing along 7th Street on foot, police said. He was described as a male in his early 20s. Anyone with information on the crime was urged to call 877-LAPD-247.
