LOS ANGELES—The 15-year-old boy killed in a crash in the Sun Valley neighborhood was going to become a father soon, according to media reports Dec. 18.

The victim was identified by family members as Carlos Pech, according to several broadcast sources. The Medical Examiner’s office has yet to confirm the victim’s identity.

Carlos was expecting a baby with his girlfriend next month, relatives told the broadcasters.

The man suspected of driving the 2007 Cadillac Escalade SUV that struck Carlos was identified by the Los Angeles Police Department as 22-year-old Joseph Delgado, a resident of the North Hills neighborhood.

Mr. Delgado was driving eastbound on Strathern Street when he lost control at about 11 p.m. Saturday at White Street. He struck several parked vehicles, and debris from the crashes injured another pedestrian walking on the sidewalk before he ran away, Los Angeles police reported Sunday.

Mr. Delgado was located, arrested and booked on a charge of murder, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) reported.

The boy identified as Carlos was in the roadway and was struck by debris from the parked vehicles, police said. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, authorities said.

The other pedestrian suffered moderate injuries and was expected to recover, police said.

Anyone with information on this crash was asked to call LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division at 818-644-8000.
