Election Day marks not just the end of numerous campaigns but the culmination of—or, undoubtedly in important cases, the continuation of—knock-down, drag-out battles waged in state houses and courthouses over which votes should count, who should do the counting, and whether some candidates were even eligible to receive votes in the first place.
Lawmakers pushed over 1,000 election-related bills this year, with largely Democrat-led states passing laws easing voting rules and regulations and largely Republican-led states passing laws strengthening them.
