ORANGE COUNTY, N.Y.—Barbecue masters from all over the United States gathered at the New Century festival grounds in the Town of Deerpark to crown a Grand Champion. The competition grounds were open to the public with vendors, food, and music on Aug. 2 and 3.

A total of 34 barbecue teams from 20 states competed in the Grand American Barbecue World Championship. Groups competed in the categories of chicken, pork ribs, pork, and brisket. The event was split into two days: the first day was the World Championship, and the second day was the New York State Championship. There was much overlap between participants in the two competitions.
