Another viral video shows a man removing the cap from a container of Blue Bell ice cream before licking it inside a Texas Walmart.
Walmart said in a statement: “We were able to check the surveillance footage and it does look like the customer ended up purchasing that tub of Ice Cream. That being said we do take this kind of thing seriously so if anyone does tamper with product in our store and they do leave it on the shelf, then we will work with Law Enforcement to identify who that is, and go from there.”
“Come on, let’s go, let’s go! Hurry up!” said another person in the video.
Most people were frustrated with the user’s attempt at a joke.
“I been done with blue bell after the second video of randoms licking ice cream popped up online,” one person wrote.
Another said, “It dont matter receipt or not he did this inside the store before purchasing it anyone doing this stuff needs to be arrested.”
A third replied, “I don’t see the funny part of this it looks really ignorant and childish.”
“I trolled all Southeast Texas,” “Don” also told 12 News, adding that he often uploads “pranks” on social media.
“It took off, it got 50,000 views already,” he said.
But he said that the views have drawn backlash.
“Just saying they are going to beat me up and try to find me,” said Don. “They’re going to lick my address and stuff like that.”
Blue Bell issued a statement to the news outlet about the “prank” attempt.
“The safety of our ice cream is our highest priority, and we work hard to maintain the highest level of confidence of our customers. We view the tampering of our products very seriously,” Blue Bell spokesperson Jenny Van Dorf said.
Walmart, meanwhile, said it’s no laughing matter.
“If food is tampered with, or a customer wants to leave the impression that they left behind adulterated product, we will move quickly with law enforcement to in identify, apprehend and prosecute those who think this is a joke—it is not,” the company said.
Ice Cream Protection
After several “ice cream licking” videos went viral and were met with horror by millions of people, some stores have taken drastic measures. In the first viral case, a teenager was seen licking a container of Blue Bell ice cream at a Walmart near San Antonio, Texas. A man in Louisiana was arrested after doing the same to a Blue Bell tub.
Those measures include displaying warning signs, security, a lock on the freezer door, and a button to call for an employee.
