After Reaching Record Levels, Egg Prices Drop Steeply in March as Price Gouging Allegations Linger

After soaring to record-high costs over the winter, egg prices declined at the highest rate in 36 years in March, according to Consumer Price Index data released by the U.S. Department of Labor (USDA) on April 12.

Prices for eggs decreased by 11 percent for the month along with drops in prices for some meat, poultry, and produce, the CPI showed.
