The Los Angeles Police Department detained 58-year-old Bruce Paddock on Wednesday morning, Oct. 25, according to a source who spoke to the Los Angeles Times.
LAPD would only confirm that a man suspected of child pornography crimes has been detained on the 5300 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard. Police did not reveal the name of the man.
Police believe that Stephen Paddock, 64, single-handedly carried out the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history on Oct. 1. Paddock killed 58 people and injured more than 500 before turning the gun on himself, police said.
A spokeswoman for the FBI would not say if Bruce Paddock’s arrest is related to the FBI investigation of the shooting.
“We have no comment at this time,” she said.
Investigators have yet to uncover a motive for the Las Vegas shooting. The ISIS terrorist group claimed responsibility for the massacre, but the FBI said that the probe has not turned up any clues to support the ISIS claim.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has changed the timeline of the shooting several times since the investigation started.
Bruce Paddock is not the brother that appeared in television interviews shortly after the massacre. That brother is Eric Paddock.
Eric Paddock traveled to Las Vegas a week after the shooting to pick up his brother’s remains. He was interviewed for hours by the FBI. Eric Paddock is also handling Stephen Paddock’s estate.
Controversy about the shooting continues to swirl online. Authorities have remained tight-lipped about the details surrounding the shooting and have released no video footage from the hotel surveillance cameras more than three weeks after the tragic event.
Several lawsuits have already been filed against the hotel where Paddock carried out the shooting from, the music venue, which he targeted, the concert organizers, and other parties.
Gus Castilla’s 28-year-old daughter died from a bullet fired from the Mandalay Bay hotel room. Copies of the suit filings sent to The Epoch Times by Castilla’s lawyer outline alleged failings of the Mandalay Bay and its parent company MGM Resorts; Live Nation, the concert promoters; and Slide Fire, the company that manufactures the bump stocks that accelerated Paddock’s rate of fire to near-automatic speeds.
Castilla is seeking more than $50,000 in general damages and more than $50,000 in economic damages as well as an unspecified amount for other expenses, emotional distress, and “other relief as the Court may deem just and proper.”
The lawsuit alleges that after a preliminary investigation the plaintiffs uncovered several deficiencies among the defendants.
“[I]t’s inconceivable to us that the perpetrator was capable of transporting what amounts to an actual armory of weapons into the hotel, especially in an era in which shooting incidents and terrorism are front page news on a daily basis,” it states.
