7-Year-Old Pennsylvania Boy Found Dead at Bus Stop After Being Hit by Car

A 7-year-old Pennsylvania elementary school student was found dead at his bus stop in Franklin Township on Nov. 1.

The boy was waiting at the stop in Huntingdon when he was struck by a vehicle.

“The child was waiting at the bus stop and was apparently struck by a passing vehicle and fatally injured,” Superintendent Cathy Harlow of the Tyrone Area School District said in a statement.

“The bus driver on route arrived at the stop discovering the situation, contacted 911 and remained at the scene until first responders arrived. The driver and district personnel are assisting the State Police in the gathering of details in this ongoing investigation.”

The school district is calling what happened a hit and run as the driver apparently fled the scene after striking the child, noted WTAJ.

The driver will likely face an additional charge for fleeing the scene.

The boy was a 2nd grader at Tyrone Elementary School. He has not been identified.

The district said it is providing on-site counseling for students and staff members. “Our school community is truly grieved by this terrible loss. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers,” Harlow added.

Similar Tragedies

The death comes after eight children were struck by drivers while trying to board buses in the last two days, including four kids hit by a pickup truck driver in Indiana. Three of them, all siblings, were killed. The driver was charged with reckless homicide and faces up to 18 years in prison if convicted.

Three children were struck by a driver while waiting for their bus in Tampa, Florida on Nov. 1 and a 9-year-old Mississippi boy was killed after getting hit crossing the road to reach his bus on Oct. 31.

The driver who hit that boy was also arrested, and charged with aggravated assault. According to state law, he faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted.
