A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run Jan. 18 on the 2800 block of West 1st Street in Santa Ana, California, marking the location’s second fatality in two days.

A man was walking north, crossing 1st Street when he was struck by a vehicle traveling west at about 8 p.m. on Wednesday, which fled the scene before officers arrived, the Santa Ana Police Department reported.

Orange County Fire Authority personnel transported him to a nearby hospital, where he died. Information on his identity was not immediately available.

The vehicle and driver remain outstanding. No description was released of the suspect or vehicle.

On Tuesday, a woman crossing 1st Street was struck and killed by a vehicle—also traveling west—on the same block.

Officers were dispatched to the scene at about 5:55 a.m., and reportedly located the woman down in the roadway. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

The vehicle involved in that crash stayed at the scene, and the driver cooperated with officers.

In both instances, alcohol was not believed to be a factor, and the causes of the crashes remain under investigation.

Anyone with information on these cases are urged to call police Investigator L. Bao at 714-245-8223, or the police Traffic Division at 714-245-8200.
