Twenty states filed a lawsuit on July 29 challenging a provision in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that would strip Medicaid funding from Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider.
The lawsuit, filed by attorneys general from Democratic-led states and the governor of Pennsylvania, seeks to block a provision in the legislation that bars nonprofit organizations that provide abortions and that received more than $800,000 in Medicaid reimbursements in fiscal year 2023 from receiving Medicaid funding. That includes Planned Parenthood, although the legislation does not explicitly mention the organization.
