A man opened fire outside a casino in Reno, Nevada, on the morning of July 28, killing at least three people and wounding three others before being taken into custody, authorities said.
“We responded to the scene, and within four minutes, we had located the suspect and an officer-involved shooting had occurred,” Nance said. “The suspect was taken to the hospital. I don’t have an update as to his status at this time, but I do know that it was an adult male that was involved.”
Nance said officers found several gunshot victims and other injured people at the scene and immediately began providing first aid, with fire crews assisting. She said several people were transported to hospitals, but did not provide exact numbers or their condition during the briefing.
According to The Associated Press, at least three people had been killed and three others wounded. Caroline Ackerman, spokesperson for Renown Regional Medical Center, confirmed that its emergency department had received multiple patients with gunshot wounds.
“It could have been much, much worse,” Schieve told the outlet. “We don’t know yet quite how it started or who was involved.”
Police urged residents to avoid the area as emergency vehicles, including several ambulances, swarmed the scene.
The Grand Sierra, which bills itself as having the largest casino floor in northern Nevada, is located near Reno-Tahoe International Airport and has nearly 2,000 hotel rooms. The resort was the site of a fatal shooting in January 2024, when two men were charged with killing another guest.
