SAN DIEGO—San Diego County and one of its health care contractors have agreed to pay $15 million to the family of a woman who died at the Las Colinas jail in Santee nearly five years ago.

The settlement reached late last week stems from a wrongful death lawsuit filed in connection with Elisa Serna’s Nov. 11, 2019, death, in which alleged jail staff were accused of failing to properly treat Serna despite knowing she was suffering from symptoms of drug and alcohol withdrawal, including frequent vomiting and seizures.
