Video footage of a Texas woman stopping her son in traffic, yanking him out of her new car, and beating him with a belt has gone viral.

Liza Campero documented the situation in a series of tweets that led to her 14-year-old brother stealing his mother’s new BMW and attempting to drive it to his girlfriend’s house.

She said he first disconnected the Wi-Fi in her house to disable the security cameras so he could make a clean getaway.

His mistake appeared to be stopping by the house of his best friend. The mother of the friend alerted Campero’s mother, who took off from the house in another vehicle with Campero in tow.

“She wanted to find him before he wrecked the car and before the police did,” Campero said.

Another video featured Campero’s mother on a call with her father, filling him in on what was happening.

Campero’s phone captured the moment her mother caught up to her brother, pulling alongside him and yelling at him to pull over, before punishing him as traffic passed by. She had brought a belt to use for the punishment.

“My mom said once she opened the door, he had a smirk on his face until she started spanking him,” Campero said.

The teenager was embarrassed initially but treated positively the next day at school.

“[My brother] was embarrassed at first,” Campero wrote on Twitter. “But he went back to school yesterday, and everybody tells him he’s like a legend.”

However, the teen is apparently going to be grounded until 2019, although Campero said she helped him convince their mother to let him attend homecoming. She did add later that the parents of his girlfriend messaged her mother saying they wouldn’t let their daughter attend with her son.

The story went viral on Twitter, the microblogging platform that enables users to share stories in a thread of posts.

The first post Campero made has been liked over 142,000 times and retweeted, or shared, over 41,000 times as of Oct. 17.

In a follow-up YouTube video, the 14-year-old Aaron appeared with his sister to answer people’s questions.

“I lost my PS4, my phone, my necklace, and my ring,” Aaron said. “And his door off his hinges,” his sister added.

“I just don’t think right,” Aaron said. “If I put my mind to something I can do it.”

Addressing some people criticizing their mom for spanking Aaron, his sister said some people do spank as part of their parenting.
