DALLAS—A woman was seriously injured when her 1-year-old child accidentally shot her and an infant in a Granbury parking lot Wednesday, police say.

The shooting happened around 11:25 a.m. outside a Walmart along U.S. Highway 377.

The children’s 23-year-old mother was standing outside the driver’s side door and their 26-year-old father was standing behind the truck when the 1-year-old child picked up a handgun concealed between the seat and the center console, according to Granbury police.

The gun fired once and the bullet went through the 3-month-old child’s leg before going through the mother’s arm and into the side of her chest.

The mother was flown to a hospital in Fort Worth and the baby was taken to a hospital in an ambulance, police said.

While the baby’s injury was not life-threatening, police believe the mother’s injury was more serious. Her condition was unknown Wednesday.

The victims’ names have not been released, and no additional information was made available.

Granbury is about 70 miles southwest of Dallas.
