Star Wars actor John Boyega recently made a surprise visit to his former school, Oliver Goldsmith Primary School in London, to show the students some Jedi moves.
Boyega joined taekwondo athlete and Olympian Jade Jones on Wednesday, as part of the Change4Life program, “Train Like a Jedi,” which encourages children to be active.
Jones helped the kids warm up a little bit, then called Boyega into the room as the students cheered, according to a video by TNR Press Association.
Jones then asked the young kids who was going to be better, and a student quickly said Boyega.
“We’ll see about that,” said Jones, who is a double gold medalist.
“Being an athlete, I know how important it is to keep active,” said Jones. “It’s just trying to inspire all the children to do the same.”
The “Train Like a Jedi” program by England’s National Health Service has new games and activities posted online every week, which can be broken up into 10-minute routines, so busy families and those located in various areas can also participate. There’s even a wheelchair accessible version.
“Kids love Star Wars, and that’s a great way of motivating them,” said Boyega, who was sweating by the end. He said it reminded him of his training for the films.
Only one in three children in the U.S. are physically active every day, according to the Department of Health and Human Services. Children on average also spend more than seven and a half hours a day in front of a screen.
However, regular physical activity can improve strength, fitness, and cognitive performance, as well as reduce the risk of developing dangerous health conditions, according to the CDC.
It’s recommended that children and adolescents from 6 to 17 years old engage in 60 minutes or more of physical activity every day.
