The family of a Michigan teenager said he died after a sinus infection traveled to his brain.
“Marquel went home to be with the Lord this morning,” she wrote. “With this devastating news we also need to add funeral arrangements to the financial needs of the family. Please also continue to pray for the family to have strength through this difficult time.”
Gilbert said that Brumley, 13, was at Mott Children’s Hospital after a sinus infection had worked its way into his brain.
An MRI scan revealed that the infection in his brain had caused blood clots that resulted in multiple strokes.
After Brumley started having migraines, the family said the teenager visited multiple emergency rooms, but doctors at the rooms couldn’t figure out a diagnosis.
After the strokes, Brumley never recovered.
“Every day without fail, ‘love you Aunt Nicki. See you later.’ If they spent the night here he wouldn’t go to bed without telling me he loved me. Really just a sweetheart. I’m going to miss having him around,” said Nicole Alexander, Marquel’s aunt.
The family has raised $5,000 through GoFundMe.
