A former “Glee” star, Mark Salling, was found dead of an apparent suicide, according to reports on Tuesday, Jan. 30.

“We’re told his body was found near a riverbed in Sunland (California) ... the area where he lived,” TMZ reported. “We’ve learned the address where Salling was found dead near a little league field adjacent to a creek.”

The report states he committed suicide by hanging, citing an unnamed law enforcement source.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that Salling’s cause and manner of death aren’t clear, adding that the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office can’t confirm the cause of death as his next of kin haven’t been told about it. His attorney confirmed his death to E! News: “I can confirm that Mark Salling passed away early this morning. Mark was a gentle and loving person, a person of great creativity, who was doing his best to atone for some serious mistakes and errors of judgment.”

Salling was awaiting being sentenced after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography. Prosecutors alleged that he had thousands of images.

Saling was slated to get four to seven years in prison during his March sentencing. He would have also been required to register as a sex offender.

He played Noah “Puck” Puckerman on the hit Fox show for six seasons.
