Super Bowl champion, defensive lineman Barry Cofield, was arrested on Tuesday after officers discovered heroin in his vehicle.

Cofield’s arrest came after he allegedly rammed a police car in Florida, the Orlando Sentinel reported. He was charged with heroin possession, fleeing and eluding, and aggravated assault on a police officer in Lake Mary.

The Sentinel reported that he was taken to the Seminole County Jail and posted bond.

Cofield was discovered passed out in his SUV at a traffic light near Interstate 4, the paper reported. The traffic light went from red to green several times, and his vehicle didn’t move.

Police attempted to wake up Cofield, who played for the New York Giants, and he accelerated through an intersection, leading police on a chase, they said

When he was stopped, he allegedly tried to ram a deputy’s cruiser and attempted to escape, the newspaper reported.

Police ordered him to get out of the vehicle several times before an officer shattered his window.

A red, powdery substance was found in his car, and it was later found to be heroin, officials said. Cofield’s breath also smelled of alcohol, officials told the New York Post, saying that he refused a sobriety test.
Police also said that Cofield, 34, had bloodshot eyes and refused to take a breathalyzer test, USA Today reported.

Seminole County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Cannaday told USA Today that Cofield was booked into jail on Tuesday and was released later in the morning.

He last played in the NFL in 2015.
