A 2-year-old boy in England awoke from a coma just as his family was turning off life support. Two years later and he’s free of an extremely rare form of cancer after a gut-wrenching series of ordeals.
“There’s a one-in-125 million chance of a 3-year-old having that in their lungs—there are only two other cases of it in the UK.,” his mother told The Telegraph. ”No one still quite knows why it manifests itself as cysts so doctors didn’t know how to treat it. His lungs were 80 percent covered in these blisters.”
Days after he made a recovery, his right lung collapsed. His chest was drained and he was able to leave the hospital. But soon after that he collapsed at a day care center and had to be given CPR until an ambulance arrived, according to The Telegraph.
He then developed an infection while receiving care at a medical center. His oxygen saturation levels plummeted. Both his parents and medical staff prepared for his death and were in the process of removing life support when he started moving. His condition improved to the point where he was able to return home. He grew healthy, with oxygen levels even higher than people who never had his condition, The Telegraph reported.
“We had told [his brother] Bryce that Dylan wasn’t coming back, so when we explained that he had got better Dylan said, ‘Oh, so he’s like Jesus then.’” said Kerry Askin, Dylan’s mother, via the Telegraph. ”I said, ‘You’re not wrong.’ He had just risen from the dead.”
The miraculous occurrence took place on Good Friday, just before Easter.
