All lanes of northbound Interstate Highway 680 have reopened after a shooting investigation prompted the California Highway Patrol to close a section the roadway in San Jose on the early morning of Aug. 30.

The shooting occurred just after 3 a.m. on Highway 680 somewhere in between McKee and Berryessa roads, according to CHP Officer Ross Lee.

The victim got off the highway, parked on Hostetter Road and called 911. San Jose police notified the CHP, and responding officers found several bullet holes on both the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle.

The driver suffered a gunshot wound to the back, but the injuries were not thought to be life-threatening. He was alert and responsive when transported to a hospital, Lee said.

The subsequent investigation prompted authorities to close down northbound Highway 680 between Jackson Avenue and Berryessa Road.

A Sig-alert was issued at 4:26 a.m., but all lanes had been reopened by around 6:30 a.m., according to the CHP.

The victim, as well as an uninjured passenger in the vehicle, were unable to provide investigators with a description of the suspect vehicle. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the CHP’s San Jose office at (408) 467-5400.
