University of Illinois: Explosion Forces Evacuation of Chemistry Annex, 3 Injured

An explosion at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on Tuesday prompted a building evacuation, it was reported.

The explosion appears to be the result of a chemical reaction, reported WCIA-TV. The university said that “hazardous materials” were released.

Three students were exposed to the chemicals and taken to the hospital

The Chemistry Annex at 601 South Mathews Avenue, where the explosion happened, was evacuated.

The university stressed that the explosion was confined to one room.
