United Nations Foundation 56th Global Leadership Dinner

The United Nations Foundation hosted their annual Global Leadership Dinner on Nov. 6 at Gotham Hall in New York City. It marked the anniversary of Ted Turner’s $1 billion gift to the United Nations and celebrated the organization’s role in advancing world peace. Actress and philanthropist, Jane Fonda was the emcee for the event and joined Ted Turner, UN Foundation Chairman and founder of CNN, to present the final award to former US Senator and President of the UN foundation Timothy Wirth.

NEW YORK—The United Nations Foundation hosted their annual Global Leadership Dinner on Nov. 6 at Gotham Hall in New York City. It marked the anniversary of Ted Turner’s $1 billion gift to the United Nations and celebrated the organization’s role in advancing world peace. Actress and philanthropist, Jane Fonda was the emcee for the event and joined Ted Turner, UN Foundation Chairman and founder of CNN, to present the final award to former US Senator and President of the UN foundation Timothy Wirth. 

The dinner acknowledged leaders who are working with the UN in developing solutions to global problems. The honorees and guest included:

  • Malala Yousafzai, 16-year old international education activist
  • Samantha Power, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations
  • Anthony “Tony” Lake, Executive Director, UNICEF
  • Her Majesty, Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan
  • Barbara Bush, Co-Founder and CEO Global Health Corps; UN Foundation Global Entrepreneurs Council
  • Priyanka Chopra, International activist and actress
  • Tom Yellin, Executive Producer, The Documentary Group and 10x10 – Girl Rising
  • Kathy Calvin, President and CEO, The United Nations Foundation

 Nearly 500 leaders, policy makers, celebrities, diplomats, entrepreneurs attended the dinner.
