United Airlines celebrated their 50 years of service at Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport on August 20. Representatives of San Jose and Norman Mineta himself were present in the lobby to say a few words for the occasion.

“I used to always complain to the DC United people,” said Mineta, former US Secretary of Transportation. “They treat San Jose as a station, but...not all your energy is devoted to the hubs. I want you to spend more time thinking about San Jose. And so today, I’m so proud of the fact that you can get just about anywhere from San Jose International Airport.”

According to press release, Mineta represented San Jose for almost 30 years and contributed to the making of Transportation Security Admission (TSA). He is also recognized for his commitment in economic development, science and technology policy, foreign and domestic trade, budgetary issues, and human and civil rights.

The celebration concluded with cake and group photos.
