[xtypo_dropcap]T[/xtypo_dropcap]he unemployment rate for New York City went down again to 9.5 percent, marking the sixth consecutive month that the jobless rate declined, according to a report released on Thursday by the state’s Department of Labor. Approximately 8,200 jobs were added in June in New York City, or 0.1 percent. New York state’s joblessness rate also dropped 0.1 percent to 8.2 percent. The current national unemployment rate stands at 9.5 percent and unemployment claims dropped just over 6 percent to 429,000.

“While we lost a small number of private sector jobs in June, New York’s unemployment rate continued to show improvement,” stated Peter A. Neenan, Ph.D., the director of the DOL’s Division of Research and Statistics.
