The U.K. economy grew during the fourth quarter of 2009, easing out of recession faster than analysts have predicted. Fourth-quarter GDP increased 0.4 percent over the previous three months, the Office for National Statistics reported this week.

The 0.4 percent figure was revised upward, from 0.1 percent, and later 0.3 percent in growth. Economists say that the growth may have had something to do with the U.K.’s decrease in value-added tax, a measure instituted by Chancellor Alistair Darling last year.
