The 27-year-old former UCLA basketball player Tyler Honeycutt was reported dead following a police standoff, confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department(LAPD).

The incident happened on July 6 in Honeycutt’s own home at Van Nuys. Police responded to a call from Honeycutt’s mother at around 5 p.m. saying he was acting erratically with a gun in his hand. Honeycutt was barricaded and appears to have shot himself while officers were approaching him. LAPD confirmed that after the first gunshot from Honeycutt, officers returned fire, but none of the officers’ bullets struck Honeycutt.

Honeycutt played two seasons at UCLA, from 2009 to 2011, after which he was chosen by the Sacramento Kings in the second round of the 2011 NBA Draft.

His finished his last NBA season at 2013. In 2014, Honeycutt played in a Russian team, Khimki that later won the Eurocup championship in the 2014-15 season.
