Two Yemeni men arrested on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack were released by Dutch authorities on Wednesday.

According to the prosecutor, an investigation by American and Dutch officials found no connection of the two men to any crime.

On Tuesday the two were arrested in Amsterdam after landing on a flight from Chicago, over “suspicious” items found in their luggage by airport officials. A mobile phone taped to a medicine bottle, as well as knives, and a large quantity of cash, were found in the men’s luggage.

Apparently the two men did know each other and were on their way to meet relatives in Yemen, most likely with mobile phones and watches as gifts to celebrate the end of the Ramadan.

Klaas-Arjen Krikke, lawyer of one of the men called the whole situation “outrageous.”

“They are before the eyes of the world portrayed as terrorists,” he told Dutch media.
