Two suspects in the violent attacks in Kashgar, Xinjiang Province over the weekend were shot dead in a cornfield by police on Aug. 2, state media reported.

Police in Kashgar had issued an arrest warrant on Monday, offering a reward of 100,000 yuan (about US$15,500) to capture the two Uighur suspects that had fled the scene during one of the attacks over the weekend.

On July 30 and July 31, 20 people were killed, including eight suspects, and 40 injured in two violent attacks.

Xinhua, an official mouthpiece of the Chinese Communist Party, said that some of the attackers had received training in the use of firearms and explosives in Pakistan.

The Party Committee in Xinjiang held an emergency meeting on July 31 regarding “stability maintenance” in the region after the attacks. The Communist Party Secretary, Zhang Chunxian, said they will “resolutely punish” the criminals.
