Tulsi Gabbard Endorses Tudor Dixon for Michigan Governor, Will Campaign Alongside Her

Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) on Thursday announced her endorsement for Republican challenger Tudor Dixon in her race to unseat incumbent Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat.

In an Oct. 21 statement on Twitter, Dixon responded to Gabbard’s support, saying that she’s honored and will be campaigning alongside her in Michigan in the final weeks of the midterm elections.

“[Tulsi Gabbard] has been a voice of reason across party lines. She is courageously speaking her mind and showing us all what it means to be a leading independent thinker. I am honored to have her support and cannot wait to welcome her to Michigan next week!” per Dixon’s post.

Gabbard’s endorsement of Dixon comes after she campaigned for Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake in Arizona on Oct. 18, lambasting national leaders of the Democratic Party as “elitists” who no longer represent the party of individual freedom she once served.

“They have gone crazy—they have gone insane. There’s no other way to describe it,” Gabbard, a 2020 Democrat candidate for president who recently left the party, said at a rally for Lake.

The Oct. 18 rally also featured Arizona Republican candidates Blake Masters for U.S. Senate and Abe Hamadeh for state attorney general.

Last week, Gabbard announced her departure from the Democratic Party, saying it has become a party that is “under the complete control of an elitist cabal.”

In two videos, Gabbard said the move was driven in part by President Joe Biden and his administration not responding after activists started protesting outside the homes of Supreme Court justices before and after the court struck down Roe v. Wade.

“When the party in power does not believe in the rule of law but they’re responsible for writing and enforcing laws, our democracy is doomed,” Gabbard said. “Today’s Democratic Party does not believe in our constitutionally protected right to free speech.”

Gabbard has been increasingly critical of what she sees as growing extremism among Democrats on topics like education, gender, and war. Her platform included vowing not to involve the United States in “forever wars” and to withdraw the country from Afghanistan.
