President Donald Trump won’t invoke federal authority over National Guard troops for now, amid often violent protests across the United States following the death of George Floyd, White House national security adviser Robert O'Brien said.
“We’re not going to federalize the Guard at this time,” O’Brien told reporters at the White House on May 31. Governors and mayors should be the ones making decisions on law enforcement, he said.
