Donald Trump on Tuesday put an end to his lawsuit against Bill Maher after he made a joke about Trump in January.
While on the “Tonight Show,” Maher made a comment that he would offer $5 million to anyone who couldn’t prove that Trump’s father was an orangutan.
“The color of his hair and the color of an orange orangutan is (sic) the only two things in nature of the same color,” he quipped.
Trump accepted the challenge and mailed Maher, a Democrat, a copy of his birth certificate and demanded payment. He later filed suit against Maher when the former “Politically Incorrect” host shrugged it off.
“Attached hereto is a copy of Mr. Trump’s birth certificate, demonstrating that he is the son of Fred Trump, not an orangutan,” reads part of the lawsuit, according to Reuters.
Celebrity news website TMZ reported that Trump, however, reconsidered the move and dropped the lawsuit several days ago.
However, a spokesperson for Trump said that “the lawsuit was temporarily withdrawn to be amended and refiled at a later date,” according to the website.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said that Maher’s joke wasn’t amusing.
“That was venom,” he said. “That wasn’t a joke.”
