[xtypo_dropcap]A[/xtypo_dropcap]festive glow will spread across the city, as Christmas trees and Hanukkah Menorahs are illuminated from Park Avenue to Rockefeller Center this holiday season.

The lighting of the world’s largest Menorah will begin on Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m. at Fifth Avenue and 59th Street, and will continue for eight consecutive nights ending on Dec. 8. On Sunday evening, Dec. 5, the ceremony will be accompanied by folk dancing and sufganiyot (holiday jelly donuts).

The Christmas tree lighting at Rockefeller Center is scheduled for Nov. 30.

The Peace Tree at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine will be lit on Dec. 17 at 11 a.m.

Lights will glow amid the 1000 paper cranes and other symbols of peace adorning the holiday tree. Children will be able to learn how to make cranes and hear about the history of Christmas traditions at the event. The ceremony will be located at 110th Street and Amsterdam Avenue.

The tree-lighting ceremonies at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Medieval Sculpture Hall will be held Tuesdays through Sundays at varying times. Neapolitan angels and cherubs adorn the 20-foot blue spruce at the museum.

The American Museum of Natural History has pulled its tree out of storage for its 30th year last week. The tree has been decorated in the theme of Discovery this year.
