The trailer for Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the third installment in the Michael Bay-directed series, was officially released on Thursday.

The film stars Shia LeBeouf as he reprises his lead role as Sam Witwicky.

Megan Fox, a star in the previous two, is not in the film. Instead, she will be replaced by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who will play Witwicky's love interest Carly.

The movie will apparently have a different take on history, as the trailer shows the Apollo 11 moon landing mission 40 years ago, and astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin entering a massive spaceship wreckage, instead of just walking around on the moon. Apparently, this is the genesis of the Transformers story, where humans discover the giant, shapeshifting robots.

The astronauts discover a seemingly dead robot whose eyes start to blink.

The film is slated for release on July 1, 2011.
