Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling approximately 412,000 vehicles in the United States, 373,000 Avalon sedans and 39,000 Lexus LX 470 SUVs, for issues that could cause the steering wheel to lock up in some vehicles. The recall is the latest in a string of recalls that has plagued the automaker over the past year. Since last November, Toyota, which is based in Japan, has recalled around 10 million vehicles for a host of safety issues including unintended acceleration, steering column issues, brakes, and rusting frames. The latest recall affects vehicles between the 2000 and 2004 model years for the Avalon, and the 2003 to 2007 model year LX 470. Registered customers will receive letters next month for repairs.
