Authorities in Scotland, Ark., reported that a tornado touched down on Wednesday afternoon.
“At 4:28pm CDT law enforcement reported a tornado in Scotland,” said The Weather Channel on its Twitter account.
The station later said that a tornado emergency was declared for Clinton, Ark., and a tornado touchdown could be “imminent.” However, it later said the tornado “has missed Clinton just to the north and west by a few miles” but there is “still violent rotation on radar.”
The report came after the National Weather Service issued a warning on Wednesday that a “potent storm system” will bring a bevy of weather hazards to much of the central and eastern United States.
The agency said that a tornado warning would remain in effect in north-central Arkansas on Wednesday.
