A tornado warning was issued for parts of New Jersey on Monday, it was reported.
A flash flood watch was also in effect for Mercer, Hunterdon, Sussex, Morris, and Middlesex, according to NJ 101.5.
Union and Essex counties fall under the warning until around 9:45 a.m., according to the New Jersey Star-Ledger, citing the National Weather Service. Forecasters urge locals in the town to find shelter in a basement.
A severe thunderstorm is creeping across the state, and it is possible that a tornado might be produced.
The weather agency said that a tornado could hit Union at 9:35 a.m., Millburn at 9:30 a.m., Orange at 9:45 a.m., and Summit at 9:25 a.m.
Morris, Sussex, Somerset, and Midddlesex counties were also under a severe thunderstorm warning, according to NJ 101.5.
UPDATE as of 10:30 a.m. - A flash flood warning was issued for Queens, the Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester County, Staten Island, and Brooklyn. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Westchester County, according to the National Weather Service. Hudson County, Union County, Bergen County, and Essex County was also put under the warning.
The warning is in effect until 1:00 p.m., the agency said.
