A tornado warning was issued for Connecticut’s Fairfield County on Monday as storms pass over the greater New York City area. 

The National Weather Service issued the warning for lower and central Fairfield County until 11:30 a.m., according to NBC Connecticut.

A tornado is possible in Greenwich, Georgetown, New Canaan, North Stamford, Weston, and Wilton, it said.

Residents are advised to stay away from windows and take cover.

The weather service advisory said that the safest place to be in a tornado is in a basement, according to WABC-TV.

A flash flood warning was also issued for Litchfield and Fairfield counties, while a flash flood watch was issued for Hartford County, Norwalk.itsrelevant.com said.

The flash flood warning was in effect for Fairfield County until 12:30 pm.
