The sequel of the 1980s hit movie “Top Gun” is currently finalizing its main cast members.
Producers Tom Cruise, Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison from Skydance have been testing actors to find out the best one to portray the son of Maverick’s wing man, as well as his best pal, Goose.
Anthony Edwards starred as Goose in the original Tony Scott-directed film. The character was killed in an accident, providing an emotional arc to the film.
Goose and his wife, played by Meg Ryan, also had a young son.
The list of possible actors for that role was recently narrowed down to three frontrunners. Nicholas Hoult, Glen Powell and Miles Teller made the cut after the final round of testing took place earlier this week in Florida, where Tom Cruise lives.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dylan O’Brien and Austin Butler were also previously considered.
Among the three frontrunners, Nicholas Hoult starred in the X-Men Movies as the blue-furred Beast, and he also had his moments in Mad Max: Fury Road and Rebel in the Rye.
Glen Powell played astronaut John Glenn in Hidden Figure and now stars in a Netflix romantic comedy.
As for Miles Teller, aside from having Thank You for Your Service as one of his big blockbusters, the actor made his debut in 2014’s Whiplash.
