With his third and fourth catches on the day Falcons’ tight end Tony Gonzalez passed Cris Carter (1,101) and Marvin Harrison (1,102) to vault into second place on the all-time receptions list. Gonzalez wound up with five on the day for 62 yards as the Falcons won at Detroit 23-16.

The former Chief, traded to Atlanta following the 2008 season now has 188 as a Falcon after amassing 916 in his 12 seasons in Kansas City.

Though he is far and away the leader in catches among tight ends the 34-year old Gonzalez would have to continue to play at a high level for a while longer to catch Jerry Rice’s record 1,549 catches.

Gonzalez, an 11-time Pro Bowler and 5-time First Team All-Pro, entered Sunday’s game 15th in the league with 30 catches on the season.
