A man pulled a knife outside the New York studio of the “Today” show on Thursday and attempted to slice his wrists.

Matt Lauer “just reported that a man on the plaza tried to harm himself with a knife” and “no one else was injured,” the show’s Twitter feed posted.

The New York Police Department handled the situation, said Lauer. “All secure on the plaza after a scary incident. Thanks to our security team and the NYPD,” he tweeted.

The man who cut himself was described as an “IRS ranter” by the New York Daily News

“I had to do something desperate to fight the corruption, fight the IRS,” the man, Pak Chong Mar, told the Daily News while he was laying on a hospital gurney at Bellevue Hospital. “They are so powerful.”

Pak added: “I need people to help me fight for justice. If I don’t do something drastic, sooner or later these guys are going to kill me anyway. I couldn’t even pay rent this month.”

He said that he came to the United States from China in 1948 and made more than a million dollars by buying stocks after he saved up his money working.

“I should be living well,” he added. “I had over a million dollars before. They’re making my life miserable.”
