Timothy Ray Jones was identified as a the father of five South Carolina children who were reportedly found dead in Butler County, Alabama. Reports on Tuesday hav e said that he’s the primary suspect in the case.

The Jackson Clarion-Ledger reported that Jones confessed to the killing of the children.

Butler County, Alabama Sheriff Kenny Harden confirmed that the bodies of five children were discovered in a home. The children have been missing since early  September.

Harden didn’t say how the kids died.

The father is said to be the primary legal guardian of the children. Jones was arrested Sept. 6 in Raleigh Mississippi on unrelated charges.

Neighbors in Lexington, SC, told the station that Jones said he was moving with the children to another state, but they did not elaborate.

DA: Bodies of 5 missing SC children found 

CAMDEN, Ala. (AP) — A district attorney says the bodies of five children missing from South Carolina have been found in rural Alabama. The children’s father is in custody.

Wilcox County, Alabama, District Attorney Michael Jackson told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the father is suspected of killing the five children in South Carolina and dumping the bodies in Alabama.

Jackson could not say for sure in what state the father was being held. He has not been identified.

He said all charges will be filed in South Carolina and the children’s bodies will be taken back to that state.

Deputies say the man’s ex-wife reported her children missing on Sept. 3 when she could not contact her ex-husband. She told investigators there were other times she hadn’t been able to contact him and the children turned up safe.
