A Times of London columnist is drawing backlash after suggesting that President Donald Trump be assassinated, later apologizing for the comment.
In a tweet, India Knight, who lashed out at the new president continuously over the weekend, wrote: “The assassination is taking such a long time.”
Knight later deleted the tweet hours later.
She also apologized. “Right. I have deleted the offending tweet, which was a joke in very bad taste, and which I unreservedly apologise for,” she tweeted Monday.
And on Monday, Knight mused: “Time for a Twitter holiday, I think.”
@indiaknight this is not something a simple apology will do it. It’s a crime and you should face the consequences @FBI @SecretService @CIA pic.twitter.com/ynfowgLAVp

In the meantime, however, she was criticized on Twitter by other users. “Idiotic & threatening tweets regarding a President has its consequences,” wrote one person on Sunday.
Time for a Twitter holiday, I think.

Others suggested that Knight be investigated by the U.S. Secret Service.
“I have still forwarded your tweet to Homeland Security. People need to start being punished for incitement to murder,” wrote another.
